Are you interested in urban food flows data, and would you like to contribute to this website? We invite you to join our efforts!
Our platform was made to assist researchers in sharing and visualizing urban food flows data. We have set up a system where it is every easy to create new visualizations, as long as data is provided in a specific format. This format revolves around a master spreadsheet, which contains the data in spreadsheet format using specific columns and data formatting. This format is explained in our accompanying paper, and a template for this format can be downloaded here:
Researchers that have data for other cities are warmly invited to reach out and to get access to the upload section, where they can upload data on their own city. Data visualizations will be generated instantly, and can be shared with any stakeholder by referring them to this website.
We do not expect that all master spreadsheets be complete. In fact, we expect that there will be gaps and data quality issues; this is the primary conclusion of the initial data exercise that we engaged in while doing our first comparative study underlying this platform. Data gaps can be easily identified by the system and do not make a dataset less valuable. In fact, it can highlight that more data efforts are needed to complete your work. We therefore encourage uploading of datasets even if they are not considered complete and robust enough. By entering data quality indicators, you can ensure that readers understand the shortcoming of your dataset.
